Amonik! From our glee club to The West End!

Amonik from our Glee club to The West End!

Amonik started at Saturday Stage School at the age of 5 and loved it singing, dancing and acting!j He joined Anna Leigh Vocal Studios in 2012. Amonik improved his singing skills by attending Anna Leigh vocals and taking vocal coaching as well as joining the Glee Club in 2012. Amonik learnt about the singing scales and how to use technique with his singing.

He auditioned to be a boy in Oliver with Whitley Bay Ops and loved being in the show at the Playhouse. He also enjoyed performing in Summer Holiday with Whitley Bay Ops and I remember a phonecall from Amonik saying that on the finale night they had been allowed on "The Summer Holiday Bus" on stage. Amonik enjoyed dancing with Decote Dance at School and joined the Blyth Youth Academy where he was spotted as a winner of two Noda awards - one for a solo song in Grease and one for his role as The Artful Dodger in Oliver.

Having one to one vocal coaching at ALVS enabled him to sing to an audience as a solo performer, singing pop songs and he entered a couple of local competitions as well as singing in The Young Lord Mayors competition. Pop singing was a new skill and was different to Musical Theatre training.

Back at home Amonik rehearsed and rehearsed and undertook Lamda exams (drama) and Trinity Guildhall exams (Musical Theatre) outside of school work. He joined The Quay Lads Choir at The Sage Gateshead and he headed off to London to sing at The Royal Albert Hall. Amonik also went through 3 auditions to get onto the Theatre Royals performance of Lord of the Flies with Matthew Bourne's New Adventures. This was his first taste of professional dance. He loved it!

Amonik appeared "Taking The Next Step" on CBBC Amonik travelled down South 7 times for auditions at 4 Professional Performing Arts Schools of his choice and is now training at "Laine Theatre Arts" in Surrey where he is the youngest boy in the school. He is training in singing, dancing and acting. He gained a Dance and Drama Award to help towards his fees and is extremely grateful to all of the many Grass Roots training companies that he was lucky to be with.

We really are fortunate to have a wealth of talented volunteers and coaches in the performing arts world in this area and thanks to them and a lot of hard work and dedication Amonik has been able to grab the opportunity of attending Laine.
